Pashka in the shape of a hedgehog (Māra Siksna)

Brisbane, Australia

In Māra’s family, a special tradition of making pasha has developed for Easter. Each year Māra prepares uncooked pasha, while her daughter chooses to make the cooked version. The appearance of the pasha also gives this tradition a distinctive character, as Māra does not shape it in the traditional pyramid form but instead makes it in the shape of a hedgehog. Nuts form the hedgehog’s spines, while dried fruits are used for the eyes and nose.
